People in the Wingham area will no longer have to travel outside of the community to get a bone density scan.
The Wingham and District Hospital Foundation announced on Thursday enough funds were raised on Giving Tuesday to fully pay for the vital piece of diagnostic equipment. The day saw community members donate a whopping $52,175, with the Lucknow Pharmasave offering up a $10,000 matching gift to the Wingham and District Hospital.
The donations were matched both online and in-person. Additionally, more than 80 people signed a hospital Christmas card at a special drop-in event at the Pharmasave.
“Giving Tuesday has quickly become a vital part of keeping our hospital well equipped each year. The generosity of Lucknow Pharmasave and each donor make a real difference,” Hospital Foundation Executive Director Nicole Duquette-Jutzi said in a statement.
It is anticipated the scanner will be operational by January 2026.
