Local school boards release positive EQAO results

Local school boards have released results from EQAO standardized testing for students.

The Education Quality and Accountability Office (EQAO) released the results of the Grades 3 and 6 assessments of reading, writing, and mathematics as well as the Grade 9 mathematics assessment and Grade 10 Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT).

At the Avon Maitland District School Board (AMDSB), there was improvement in the number of students meeting the provincial standard across all sectors, with some jumps as high as 11 per cent.

Additionally, the Upper Grand District School Board (UGDSB) released its results, and across all three UGDSB "laser-focus" areas -Grade 3 Reading, Grade 3 Math, and Grade 9 Math - students have shown consistent improvement over the last four years.

The highest jumps were Grade 3 Reading going from 70 per cent of students meeting to the standard to 79 per cent, Grade 3 Math jumping from 57 per cent to 68 per cent, and Grade 9 Math rising from 52 per cent to 63 per cent.

The Bruce-Grey Catholic District School Board also saw modest improvements across the board at all levels with some slight declines, including a 14 per cent boost in Grade 3 Reading, and a 20 percent jump in Grade 6 Level 4 Reading.

Huron-Perth Catholic District School Board saw similar and slightly lower results across Grade 3 assessments, but also saw big jumps of 9 per cent in Grade 6 Writing and 23 per cent in Level 4 Math.

The Bluewater District School Board also had improved results in many areas, with boosts across Grade 3 Math, Reading and Writing, Grade 6 Reading and Writing, with a slight dip in OSSLT scores.
