Maidstone Rec Centre to be demolished

The Maidstone Recreation Centre assembly hall will be demolished due to structural damage discovered after a raccoon infestation.

An administrative report to Tecumseh Town Council said the building has been closed since January after the raccoons were removed, and moisture damage, mould, and asbestos were discovered.

Tecumseh Council approved the report recommending demolition of the assembly hall. They also approved repairs to the canteen and pavilion on site.

The total cost of the project is $90,677.26.

Later this fall, the town will hold community consultations to determine building replacement considerations. They are committed to maintaining the site as a community centre.
