A program that aims to ensure area seniors feel the love this Valentine's Day is underway at the Bruce County Public Library.
The Valentines for Seniors program launched this week and will run through to February 7. Since 2022, the library has invited people of all ages to attend a staff-led session to create handmade cards or to pick up a take-home craft bag from any local branch to construct Valentines which are then brought back to library officials to be delivered to elderly residents of local care homes.
“This program is about more than just making cards; it’s about reminding our seniors that they’re cared for and valued," Program Coordinator Nancy Kuhl said in a statement. "Every card carries a heartfelt message of kindness that can brighten someone’s day.”
This year's program also includes a special PA Day Valentine crafting event at multiple branches on January 31 for kids aged 5 to 12.
Last year, 1,058 Valentines, crafted by 680 people, were delivered to local seniors.
