The Owen Sound Attack have traded captain and overage defenseman Konnor Smith to the Brampton Steelheads in exchange for seven draft picks.
General Manager Dale DeGray acknowledged the difficulty of trading a team captain but emphasized the long-term benefits. "Moving your captain is not easy, but in this situation, it was necessary for Konnor to move forward and for us to focus on the future," said DeGray.
Smith, acquired from the Peterborough Petes in a trade last January, quickly established himself as a key player for the Attack. Smith earned the captaincy at the start of the 2024-25 season. In his time with the Attack, Smith tallied six goals and 11 assists over 42 games, including a memorable hat trick against the Niagara IceDogs earlier this season.
