United Way encourages online, mail donations as fundraising wraps up

The Sarnia-Lambton United Way is hoping last-minute donations will be dropped off by Wednesday, December 24, as its annual fundraising campaign wraps up.

Volunteer President Jason Killingsworth said if you're unable to drop it off at their office, at 1362 Lambton Mall Rd., they have other options to make donations.

"The United Way office is closed between Christmas and New Years, however, donations can still be made online at www.unitedway.on.ca. Any donations received in the mail and postmarked for December 31, can still be accepted until January 9," Killingsworth said.

He said they've raised 92 per cent of the $1.5 million goal.

"We've got $118,000 left to go between now and December 31," Killingsworth said. "We know there are a few smaller workplaces yet to finalize their employee campaigns as well and some special event money is still to come in."

Killingsworth said the campaign is $70,000 behind last year's pace.

"It's really hard right now with the economy. It's hard for people to give when they have so many places that they need to direct their money, but we appreciate every donation, no matter how small," he said.

Killingsworth shared that the November burger event, which saw $2 from specialty burgers at participating restaurants go to the United Way, raised $4,000 this year.

A total of 16 local agencies receive funding from the United Way, including the Inn of the Good Shepherd, Lambton Elderly Outreach, and BGC Sarnia-Lambton.
