Georgian Bluffs holding free public skate and ski days

Georgian Bluffs residents are being invited to skate and ski through the holidays and into the new year, free of charge.

The township aims to keep people active with a series of free public skates at Shallow Lake Arena from noon until 1:20 p.m. on December 24, 29, 30, and 31. The skates are sponsored by local businesses and community groups.

"Bring your skates, your holiday spirit, and enjoy the season on ice," the township said in a statement.

Then starting in January, free ski days with the Bruce Ski Club return for the winter. The partnership between the township and ski club allows residents to access the area's scenic trail network on select dates. The ski days will be held at Sawmill Nordic Centre in Hepworth and Colpoy’s Ski Trail northeast of Wiarton on January 4, February 8, and March 1.

Those looking to ski will be required to sign a club waiver prior to hitting the trails. The waivers will be available outside of the warmup log cabin in the parking lot and can be placed in the payment slot. Equipment can be rented or purchased at Suntrail Source for Adventure, which is located just minutes from the Sawmill Nordic Centre.

The ski days are weather-dependent. Updates on trail conditions and event cancellations can be found on the Georgian Bluffs website and social media pages.
