Huron County council to receive first monthly homeless report

Three people in Huron County experiencing chronic homelessness moved into housing in the month of March.

That's one of the figures that County Council will hear this week when it receives it's first Housing and Homelessness Data Report Monthly Share-Out.

The report created by Erin Schooley, Homelessness Programs Supervisor and Madison Spriggs, Homelessness Programs Coordinator, will provide monthly updates on the current state of homelessness in the region.

The report for March shows that there were at least 103 people experiencing homelessness in the County, an increase of seven from February.

The new emergency shelter operating out of a motel was fully occupied the entire month, with 18 unique individuals staying over.

The report also breaks down the inflow and outflow of people into homelessness, including how many people got in touch with the system and how many have lost contact for more than 90 days.

Staff say communicating the facts of homelessness to leadership and the community is an important way to collectively address the complexities of the issue.

The report will be presented at Wednesday's meeting and made available online after that.
