Seaforth road work starts up this week

The Municipality of Huron East says major reconstruction work on Hwy 8 in Seaforth will start up again this week.

During this phase of construction, Goderich Street (Hwy 8) will be closed to through traffic between Sparling Street and Main Street. Work which will include underground infrastructure upgrades and roadway reconstruction, will run from April 6 to September.

Phase 1 of the Connecting Link Reconstruction Project was completed last year, on the stretch of Hwy 8 from Harpurhey Road and Sparling Street. The multi-year project, which the Municipality says will address aging infrastructure, should wrap up in 2027.

Detour routes for pedestrians, vehicles, and truck traffic will be in place and clearly marked with signage for the duration of construction.

The Municipality says as part of the detour plan, a reduced speed limit of 50 km/h will be in effect on Hydro Line, and police enforcement has been requested throughout the construction period to help ensure the safety of residents, motorists, and construction crews.
