Volunteers get funding for helping distribute rapid COVID-19 test kits in Huron County

The Chair for the Chamber of Commerce for Goderich and North and Central Huron was on hand Tuesday to say thank you to some of the volunteer groups that have helped antigen kits to local employers.

Jennifer Verdam-Woodward explained  Bruce Power donated $15,000 to support the Chamber’s rapid antigen screening kit distribution centre, which operates from donated space at The Livery, in Goderich.

Of that, $12,000 will go to those non-profit organizations whose volunteers help at the centre and $1,200 was divided between Goderich Little Theatre, the Goderich Kinsmens Club and Huron and Area Search and Rescue.

Verdam-Woodward says those volunteers “who put out the antigen testing kits for businesses who had 150 employees or fewer. We ordered 26,000 kits and we've given out 6,000 so far. We've had assistance from a number of volunteers from various charities.”

Verdam-Woodward explained the purpose of the rapid antigen screening kits, “So what they do is tell an asymptomatic person if they have antibodies, if they are testing positive for COVID or not. So it gives people the reassurance that they are not an asymptomatic passer of COVID.”
