Health Unit warns of substance more toxic than fentanyl

Grey Bruce Public Health has issued a drug alert after testing identified a substance 100 times more toxic than fentanyl.

The Health Unit said it has found a yellow/gold coloured substance being sold as fentanyl tested positive for carfentanil.

Carfentanil is an opioid and large animal tranquillizer that is more dangerous than fentanyl.

GBPH reminds those that use drugs that they should do so with a sober person around.

In the event of a drug overdose, call 911 and administer naloxone every two to three minutes until the person starts breathing. Stay until help arrives, as the Good Samaritan act provides legal protection for those that seek help during an overdose.

Drug users can also get their supply tested by calling Supportive Outreach Services (SOS) at 519-379-8743.
