OPP laid 1,815 charges on West Region roads over August long weekend

Hundreds of charges were laid on Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) patrolled roads over the August long weekend.

West Region OPP members made 2,107 traffic stops and laid 1,815 charges during the Civic Holiday traffic campaign. Most of those charges were for speeding.

From July 31 to August 3, police were focused on the main driving behaviours that contribute to death, injury, and property damage on Ontario roadways. This includes speeding, failure to wear a seatbelt, distracted driving and impaired driving.

Essex County saw the highest number of traffic violations across the board. The only exception was for charges to drivers who failed to move over for emergency vehicles. Essex saw three charges laid in this category; Middlesex County had five.
