The Province of Ontario is celebrating Canada Day with a week of free fishing.
The week-long celebration starts on Saturday and continues to next Friday.
Residents can fish without purchasing a fishing license or Outdoors Card.
"Whether you're a lifelong angler or casting a line for the very first time, our government is making it easier and more convenient to enjoy all that Ontario's world-class fishing has to offer," said Minister of Natural Resources Mike Harris. "With free fishing available across the province, Canada Day week is the perfect time to get outdoors, spend time with family and friends, and create lasting memories on the water."
All conservation license catch and size limits still apply, along with other fishing regulations.
Residents must carry identification issued by either the province or the federal government that shows their name and date of birth.
Recreational fishing supports local tourism and jobs in communities across Ontario. Every year, 1.16 million anglers spend $2.4-billion on recreational fishing.
