Not for profit employee charged with theft

Charges have been laid against a Hanover suspect after unauthorized withdrawals from the account of a not-for-profit corporation.

Hanover Police launched an internal theft investigation November 7 after routine audits by the corporation revealed money was missing from an account.

Hanover Police investigators determined an employee of the corporation had taken money from an account without authorization or justification for doing so.

Police then charged a 29-year-old woman from Hanover with three counts of Theft Under $5000, three counts of Possession of Stolen Property, and one charge of Criminal Breach of Trust.

The suspect was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in Walkerton Court to answer to her charges.

Hanover Police Chief Chris Knoll said the incident serves as a reminder to businesses and organizations that routine audits, and layers of signing authorities, should be considered to prevent thefts and identify discrepancies early.

The organization involved has asked that it not be identified.
