Public asked to help 'light up' Mount Forest hospital

The Louise Marshall Hospital Foundation is asking Mount Forest residents for help brightening the spirits of those who have to spend time at the local hospital throughout the holidays.

The annual “Let’s Light up Louise Marshall Hospital” campaign kicks off on Monday and will run through to December 23. It asks locals for financial donations that will then be used for decorations and festive lights. Supporters who give a minimum of $10 can choose an ornament, and write a special message to accompany it, before adding it to one of the Christmas trees or wreaths that have been placed around the hospital.

“This is our second year running this campaign,” said Foundation Executive Director Amy Van Huss. “We had some really beautiful messages attached to the ornaments last year, and a lot of staff were recognized for their dedication. It was truly heartwarming to see the response from the community.”

New this year, the hospital will also have an outdoor Christmas tree on display on the west side of the hospital grounds, adjacent to the visitor parking lot.

"Especially during the holiday season, no one wants to have to spend time at the hospital,” said Van Huss. “If we can add a little touch of home, a little comfort, a little holiday joy, that’s what we're hoping to accomplish.”

Those interested in sponsoring an ornament can visit the foundation office inside the hospital or the Scotiabank Mount Forest branch in-person. The bank has announced it will be matching all donations made to the campaign up to $3,000.

Donations can also be made online at louisemarshallfoundation.ca. All money raised will go toward equipment and capital project needs at Louise Marshall Hospital. People who give $20 or more will be eligible for a charitable tax receipt.
