No longer will residents be allowed to bring up an issue with trustees at the Greater Essex County District School Board meetings.
Trustees voted six-to-one to eliminate the Speakers List.
Trustee Cathy Cooke believes the public school board is the only one left in Ontario that has one.
"We need to remember that this is a business meeting. A business meeting that is held in public, it's not a public meeting with an open mic," she said.
Members of the public have disrupted past meetings with shouting and abusive language. A police officer now sits in chambers during public meetings.
Some at Tuesday's meeting are not happy about the decision.
Jeremy Palko admitted his children are not enrolled with the public school board but felt compelled to speak up in favour of the Speakers' List.
"Remaining hell-bent on cancelling the Speakers List would only further seal the reputation as 'Edu-crats' and being in service to those that put politics over people," said Palko. "There's a better way. Keep the Speakers List and partner with the constituents you work for."
The public can still speak up at meetings about topics on the agenda.
