Public health looking for a dog involved in an 'incident' in Stratford

Huron Perth Public Health (HPPH) officials are hoping to identify a dog involved in what they call an "incident" in Stratford.

The incident occurred Monday night at approximately 6:30 p.m. at the end of TJ Dolan Drive, on the stone steps leading up to the Huron Street bridge.

When asked if the "incident" was a biting incident or other type of attack by the dog, HPPH would not elaborate.

"The information in the media release is all the information we are able to provide. HPPH investigates any incident involving an animal and human, whether a bite, scratch or other exposure to an animal. Our focus when investigating human-animal exposures (bites and scratches) is on locating the owner to find out the animal’s rabies vaccination status," HPPH said in an emailed statement to CKNXNewsToday.ca.

The dog was large, light brown, and possibly a cane Corso or mastiff mix. A woman with medium length brown hair, was walking the dog on the steps when the incident occurred.

The health unit wants to know the dog's rabies vaccinations are up to date.

HPPH reminds people to always obtain the contact information of the owners of the animal that is involved in an incident.

Anyone who has information about this dog should contact Huron Perth Public Health at 1-888-221-2133 ext 3670. After hours or over the weekend, call the main number and follow the prompts to reach their answering service.
