More students have signed up this year to participate in the Lambton County Science Fair compared to 2025.
Spokesperson Melissa Chopcian said it gets underway on Friday.
"We have 63 participants who have registered this year, and we're actually up about 10 projects compared to last year, which is very exciting," said Chopcian.
Children in Grades 3 through Grade 12 were encouraged to brainstorm ideas and register for the event by the end of last month.
"We have a lot of exhibitioners and the previous exhibitioners have now grown into the junior, intermediate, and senior [categories]. We've been able to retain them and they've been coming back year, after year," Chopcian said. "So, we actually do have a very good spread of ages in our science fair this year."
Projects will be on display on Friday and Saturday.
The awards will follow and everyone is welcome to attend.
"The public is allowed to come in and see the projects," Chopcian said. "They can come either the Friday or the Saturday and they're more than welcome to come tour and chat with the different participants about their projects."
Participants in Grades 7 to 12 who do well, will qualify to go to the Canada-wide Science Fair, in Edmonton from May 23 to May 30.

Editor's note: The science fair was originally scheduled to take place at Lambton College, however, the location was changed at the last minute following a tragic overnight shooting.
"It is just devastating to hear what happened on campus this morning. I can't imagine the trauma the students and their families are facing. Campus is supposed to be a safe place for students, a place for them to find themselves and grow. It is just heartbreaking," Chopcian said in an emailed statement. "We understand how much time, effort, and excitement has gone into preparing for the fair, and we truly appreciate your patience and understanding."
The science fair will now be held at Northern Collegiate Institute & Vocational School in Sarnia.
Registration will begin at 4:30 p.m. on Friday and judging will be held from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. Judging will continue on Saturday from 9 a.m. until 12 p.m.
The awards ceremony will begin at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
