A damage survey is ongoing to determine if a tornado hit Seaforth during last week's severe storms.
A team from the Northern Tornadoes Project went to the area on Monday to evaluate the significant damage, which included the roughly 50 trees downed or broken at the Seaforth Golf Club.
The tornado researchers have already confirmed the intense storm system that rolled in off Lake Huron last Wednesday afternoon spawned EF0 and EF1 twisters, just minutes apart, in the Tavistock area. An EF0 downburst was also determined to have been produced in the same area.
The first tornado, the EF0, developed around 5:23 p.m. west of Tavistock and tracked into town with an estimated wind speed of 125 kilometres an hour. It travelled 6.249 kilometres and had a maximum path width of 410 metres, the Northern Tornadoes Project said.
Damage to trees, crops and house shingles was observed.
Roughly two minutes later, a second tornado, an EF1, appeared north of Tavistock near Shakespeare. It was determined to have an estimated maximum wind speed of 155 kilometres an hour. It tracked 8.29 kilometres with a maximum path width of 420 metres
The tornado destroyed a barn, along with trees and crops.
At the same time a downburst materialized east of Tavistock with a maximum wind speed of 125 kilometres an hour with damage found over an area approximately 17 kilometres long and 7.5 kilometres wide. Farm buildings and the roof of a home were among the damages surveyed. The downburst was assigned an EF0 rating.
A downburst is a powerful downdraft of air that spreads outward rapidly upon hitting the ground.
Northern Tornadoes Project investigators conducted a thorough ground and drone survey and analysis to make the determination. A satellite imagery review is still pending.
Neither of the two tornadoes nor the downburst resulted in any injuries.
