Over 500 students whose immunization records weren't updated may be suspended from school as soon as Tuesday morning.
Lambton Public Health (LPH) said as of 2 p.m. on Monday, March 9, approximately 513 elementary and secondary students had incomplete records under the Immunization of School Pupils Act, 1990 (ISPA).
Health Protection Supervisor Carshenan Lai said the health unit has processed thousands of immunization records since January, following the distribution of notices regarding the Immunization of School Pupils Act.
“We are now processing the final immunization records for students remaining at risk of suspension, and supporting families to prevent interruptions to learning," Lai said. "The numbers of students at risk of suspension this year are similar to what we experienced last year.”
To clear suspension, parents or guardians must report their child’s immunizations or valid exemptions to Lambton Public Health (LPH) for the following diseases: Tetanus, Diphtheria, Pertussis, Polio, Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Meningococcal disease, and Varicella.
LPH said health care providers do not automatically submit immunization records to the health unit, and children may still face suspension even if they are fully immunized.
Parents and guardians can report their child’s immunization information online through the LPH website, by phone at 226-254-8222 or in person at Lambton Public Health at 160 Exmouth Street.
LPH said if your child requires an immunization, contact your health care provider to book an appointment and notify Lambton Public Health of the appointment date.
The health unit said it is anticipating higher-than-normal call volumes this week and appreciates the public’s patience as staff work to assist clients as quickly as possible.
In 2025, over 440 local students were suspended from school under the Immunization of School Pupils Act.
