Another dumping of snow is set to hit midwestern Ontario on Wednesday.
Environment Canada has the whole region under a snow squall warning with squalls off Lake Huron and Georgian Bay to drop 15 to 25 centimetres throughout the day and into the night.
"Bursts of heavy flurries along a cold front this morning will give way to snow squalls," the national weather agency said in its advisory. "Northwesterly winds gusting to 70 kilometres an hour will result in significantly reduced visibility due to snow and blowing snow, especially over exposed areas."
The threat of more snow comes after many regions saw up to 10 centimetres fall Tuesday. Areas in the Bruce Peninsula, including Sauble Beach, received 30 centimetres over a 24-hour period Monday into Tuesday. At one point this led to more than 25 roads throughout midwestern Ontario being closed due to the poor conditions. Several roads remain closed due to poor road and weather conditions on Wednesday. This includes Highway 21 between Goderich and Port Elgin and Highway 6 from Wiarton to Tobermory.
School buses have also been cancelled and some schools closed throughout Huron-Perth and Grey-Bruce. In North Wellington, all schools are closed for the day Wednesday. At one point in the morning, the Lucknow-area lost power with nearly 1,800 Hydro One customers left in the dark. That added to the closures in the region with several child care centres having to stay shuttered.
The full list of closures and cancellations is available on the CKNX closures page.
Drivers have been reminded to prepare for changing and deteriorating travel conditions.
"If visibility is reduced while driving, slow down, watch for tail lights ahead and be prepared to stop," Environment Canada said.
The lake effect snow is expected to taper off and winds weaken by midnight.
