There's already eight people who have filed a Letter of Interest for the vacancy on South Bruce Peninsula council, with potentially more joining the race in the new year.
Council has had a vacancy since August, when Mayor Garry Michi resigned in scandal. First council appointed Jay Kirkland to the Mayor's seat, then Caleb Hull was chosen for the then vacant Deputy Mayor role.
Following in suit, council has opted to fill its vacant seat by appointment, soliciting applications from the public. Those interested are invited to submit a form in person to the Town Clerk's office during regular business hours.
Though the municipal office is closed until January 2, 2024 for the holiday break, there will be two more days for submissions, as the deadline is January 4 at 2 p.m.
Council will then hold a special meeting on January 15 where applicants can answer questions and make their case why they should be chosen to represent the Town.
Those who have filed letters of intent are: Daniel Evan Lisk, Paul Stephen Deacon, William Klingenberg, Glenn Darrell Holst, Christine Shirley Thomas, Mary E. Hanlon, Ann Marie Hadcock, James Edward Turner.
