Kids in Bruce County now have another resource to learn different subjects safely. The Launchpad tablets were donated to the Bruce County Public Library by the Nuclear Waste Management Organization (NWMO).
"They're an all in one tablet that are preloaded with educational content," said Brooke McLean, director of library services. "They don't require any internet access, everything is already on these tablets and they're highly durable."
McLean said these devices are designed for public libraries and that's the only way to get them.
"In addition to not needing to be on the internet to get content, it also means it's accessible to everybody," she said.
The Launchpads are focused on early education, the formative years before kids head into school. They allow little ones to learn reading, math, language, and more.
"By offering another route to improving these early literacy skills, we hope that children are going to continue to be very successful when they start school and during their early years of school," said McLean, mentioning that all kids learn differently.
The NWMO donated $7,500 towards the collection of tablets, continuing its ongoing support to the Bruce County Public Library.
