Saugeen Shores Police arrest two suspects in drug trafficking incident

The Saugeen Shores Police Service has arrested and charged two people following a drug trafficking investigation.

According to police, patrolling officers spotted a suspicious vehicle on June 3 in Port Elgin. The vehicle was known to police from previous crimes and was connected to a male suspect wanted for several offences.

The vehicle had a female driving with a male passenger. Officers did not attempt a traffic stop due to a concern for public safety. Police later located the vehicle, empty in a parking lot in Port Elgin.

Later that day, police saw the male and female walking in town, and identified the male as a suspect with several outstanding warrants. Officers arrested the male and female and conducted a search, where police say a "large quantity of drugs" was recovered from the male.

A search warrant was obtained for the vehicle the two suspects were in earlier, and the search yielded cash, more quantities of drugs including cocaine and fentanyl, weapons, cell phones, and drug paraphernalia.

As a result, the 40-year-old man and 37-year-old female have both been charged with a lengthy list of drug and weapons related offences.

Both accused were held for a bail hearing and remanded into custody.
