The Town of Saugeen Shores is launching an expansion of the polystyrene, or styrofoam, recycling program.
Residents can soon begin dropping off styrofoam waste in Southampton for recycling purposes. This is part of a pilot project with Second Wind Recycling. It will launch on December 28th, and last a minimum of one year. The Expanded Polystyrene (Styrofoam) Recycling Pilot Program will be run out of the Southampton Landfill site at 126 Concession 14. Items that can be collected must be clean, dry, free of tape and must be marked with the #6 recycling symbol. Accepted items include white packaging from electronics and appliances like TV’s, computers, microwaves, etc.
Items that will not be accepted include meat trays, pool noodles, take-out containers, bowls and cups, packing peanuts, insulation panels and polyethylene foam.
