The Special Investigations Unit has invoked its mandate after the arrest of a man in the area who local OPP considered armed and dangerous on Thursday.
The suspect allegedly stole a vehicle in Exeter and a public advisory was issued as Huron County OPP spent the day searching for him.
The provincial police watchdog was called in after the suspect was arrested in South Bruce around 10 p.m. that evening.
The man was apprehended by officers and the OPP West Region Canine unit, and was taken to hospital with injuries sustained during the incident.
OPP say they can’t provide any more information on the matter now that the SIU has invoked its mandate.
This is the third time SIU has invoked its mandate in the last month to incidents involving Huron County OPP. Earlier this week, they were called in after a man went into medical distress in a Clinton cell. And in early March, the civilian oversight agency began looking into injuries suffered by a man accused of assaulting a North Huron councillor.
