The future is looking brighter for the North Huron Museum.
The owners of the former train station in Wingham have offered to transfer ownership of the front portion of the property, including the train station, to the municipality for $1.
The deal would be subject to a number of terms, including severing the property 25 feet to the rear of the train station and merging it with an adjacent piece of land. North Huron must also agree to move the museum into the train station and operate it as a museum and information centre for the next 20 years.
The downtown museum was closed last year after council learned that the heritage building needed over $3 million in repairs to meet standards.
North Huron Director of Recreation and Community Services Vicky Luttenberger said the old train station building "has a lot of character, and the persona you want to see in a cultural visitor's centre." She called the train station "the best option, and one council should definitely consider".
Wingham B.I.A. Secretary Dave Tiffin said he is also hoping council gets behind this "one time opportunity."
Council will discuss the offer in detail at it's February 4 meeting.
