Grey Bruce Public Health will hold its first board meeting since the province seized control almost one year ago.
Ontario's Chief Medical Officer of Health temporarily assumed the powers of the board on August 14, 2025, citing serious concerns of how it was being governed.
Since then, no meetings have been held, as special advisors Jim Pine and Dr Eileen de Villa spent months determining the new appointee process.
New board members were announced this spring, with municipal members Dane Nielsen, Barbara Dobreen, and Scott Greig from Grey County, and Rod Anderson, and Steve Hammell from Bruce County.
Ken Craig and Shirley Keaveney were reappointed, having served on the board in 2025.
The same goes for Chad Richards, one of two members of the public appointed by the province, despite a possible six spots available. David Nusko rounds out the current board.
The group has a tentative Friday afternoon meeting set to determine chair and vice-chair positions, as well as who will serve on board committees. There will also be an in-camera meeting to discuss appointing a new Medical Officer of Health, after Dr. Ian Arra stepped down in May.
The meeting is the next step in the province eventually giving control of the Health Unit back to the board.
Meetings of the Board of Health are not livestreamed, but will be posted to GBPH’s YouTube channel within days of the meeting taking place.
