Meaford Heading For Surplus From 2016

A service review of the various municipal departments in Meaford will help reduce expenses.

In her fourth quarter 2016 report to council, CAO Denyse Morrissey announced Meaford’s finance department expects a surplus of close to $360 thousand for 2016.  That's more than twice the $160,000 staff had estimated last year.

Morrissey said much of this increase can be seen in Meaford’s roads department and its planning and building departments’ finances.

Treasurer Darcy Chapman told council the $172,000 surplus in the roads department's finances is partly the result of less snowfall last year.  He added the department also realized a saving by using less salt on the roads and developing a more efficient route schedule for its snowplows.

In an interview Saturday, Mayor Barbara Clumpus said Meaford council has now completed 35 of the 60 reviews of services delivered by the Municipality.

Council and municipal staff are still waiting to hear exactly how much they have saved when they hear from their auditors later this month.
