An enteric outbreak has been declared at a retirement home in Goderich.
Huron Perth Public Health says the outbreak at Goderich Place Retirement Residence was declared Monday, September 28, 2026. The health unit currently lists the cause of the outbreak as unknown. No information has been released on the number of residents affected. Enteric outbreaks generally involve gastrointestinal illness.
Huron Perth Public Health tracks respiratory and enteric outbreaks at long-term care homes, retirement homes, and hospitals across the region.
The health unit says its outbreak summary includes "all open and closed respiratory and enteric outbreaks" at those facilities and is updated each weekday.
HPPH guidance for long-term care and retirement homes recommends that residents who become ill remain in their rooms until they have been symptom-free for 48 hours, or meet disease-specific requirements once the cause is known.
The guidance also recommends restricting affected residents to a unit or cohort where possible and avoiding admissions or readmissions into an outbreak area.
"Discontinue group outings from affected floor/unit," the health unit's outbreak-control guidance says.
Goderich Place is one of two facilities currently listed with an active outbreak in Huron-Perth.
A respiratory outbreak of an unknown cause remains open at Exeter Villa Nursing Home after being declared September 21.
Huron Perth Public Health says outbreak information can change as data is reviewed.
