Hanover break and enter suspect caught after chase

A 40-year-old Hanover man was arrested and charged with breaking and entering after a brief foot chase with local police on Wednesday.

Hanover Police Service said that morning, it received multiple reports involving a suspicious man looking through windows and walking through backyards in the area of Fourth Street Crescent and Second Avenue.

Later that afternoon, police responded to a reported break and enter at a residence on Fourth Street Crescent.

With assistance from the OPP Canine and E.R.T officers, the suspect was located and arrested after a foot chase near the Esso on Second Street. He was taken into custody in the rear yard of a residence in the Whaling subdivision.

According to police, the suspect was found in possession of property from the residential break-in, including stolen identity documents and credit cards. Officers also discovered he was recently released from custody for other crimes and is again facing additional charges from the Owen Sound Police Service.

The man is facing charges including break and enter, possession of property obtained by crime, possession of identity documents, possession of a stolen credit card, and failure to comply with a release order.

The suspect remains in police custody pending a bail hearing.

The Hanover Police Service thanked the alert citizens who contacted police about the suspicious activity, the citizens that directed police officers during the foot pursuit, the Hanover Fire Department Drone Operators, and the O.P.P. ERT and Canine teams for their assistance.
