Bruce Power has donated $500,000 to help build the new Kincardine District Senior School.
A press release from Bruce Power shares that the company made the donation through its Community Investment Fund to support the BUILDKD+ Campaign, which is raising funding to help build the new school.
This campaign is raising funds for things that go above and beyond the provincially funded build for the school.
Currently, the campaign has a fundraising goal of $4.5 million to support enhancement like a new track and field facility, high-tech education spaces, arts and performance areas and more flexible learning environments for students.
According to the Bluewater District School board, a timeline for the completion of the new school will be announced at a later date.
"Bruce Power is proud to support the BUILDKD+ Campaign and invest in a project that will benefit students, families and the broader community for generations to come," said James Scongack, Chief Operating Officer and Executive Vice-President. "These enhanced spaces will help foster hands-on learning, innovation and well-being, supporting the future workforce while strengthening the community in which our employees live, work and raise their families."
The new KDSS will serve students from Grades 7 to 12 and is designed to be a hub for both education and community activity, with spaces that can support sports, performances, and community gatherings.
"This generous donation from Bruce Power will help bring a shared vision to life," said Don Burns, Principal of KDSS and Chair of the BUILDKD+ Campaign. "The BUILDKD+ Campaign is about creating opportunities for students and the entire community, with spaces that inspire creativity, support skilled learning and promote well-being for the next 50 years and beyond."
