Wellington County family health teams share over $4.4 million in funding

Family Health Teams across Wellington County are splitting over $4.47 million in provincial funding to help over 12,000 more people access primary care.

Perth-Wellington MPP Matthew Rae announced the funding on Thursday for the Guelph Wellington Ontario Health Team, which will disperse the funding throughout the family health teams in the region.

Funding will be coming to Midwestern Ontario as some of the funds will be shared with the Mount Forest Family Health Team Inc. and the Minto-Mapleton Family Health Team.

The family health teams will now begin recruiting more staff to help attach more patients to primary care services. The media release from Rae's office says this funding is part of the provincial government's promise to ensure all Ontarians have a primary care giver by 2029.

"This investment will connect more than 12,000 people to primary care, closer to home," said Rae. "Access to a primary care provider should be simple and this funding delivers for rural communities in Wellington North, Minto, and Mapleton."

Information about how to find a primary care provider in the area can be found at https://guelphwellingtonoht.com/.
