MS Chi-Cheemaun opens 2026 sailing season

All aboard!

The MS Chi-Cheemaun sets sail Friday for its 2026 season.

The iconic ferry will take locals, tourists, and business people between Tobermory and Manitoulin Island on a daily bases from now until October 18.

The scenic crossing takes roughly an hour and 45 minutes during the peak season and two hours during off-peak periods.

The annual spring repositioning cruise from the Chi-Cheemaun's winter dock in the Owen Sound Harbour to Tobermory held on Thursday was sold-out.

Highlights travellers can look forward to this season include a free "sail through time" exhibit featuring historic photographs and artifacts of the Owen Sound Transportation Company's history, live entertainment on select sailings, and the Chi-Cheemaun Festival Cruise on June 13. The evening festival cruise offers a BBQ meal and a fireworks display.

Last year saw a rise in both walk-on and vehicle traffic on the Chi-Cheemaun.

Travellers can book a reservation to sail through the Owen Sound Transportation Company's website www.ontarioferries.com/ms-chi-cheemaun or by calling 1-800-265-3163.

The MS Chi-Cheemaun has been in operation since 1974.
