Perth County and Rotary Club of Stratford plant 189 new roadside trees

Perth County and the Stratford Rotary Club recently planted 189 new roadside trees along local roadways.

The new trees were planted on April 18 along a 4 km stretch of Perth Road 112 between Stratford and Harmony. Staff with the county, along with 60 volunteers from the Rotary Club and other local organizations took part.

According to a media release from Perth County, this tree planting initiative "contributes to the county’s ongoing efforts to enhance roadside safety, biodiversity, and climate resilience."

County staff developed a planting plan with the Upper Thames Conservation Authority that considered tree species, local land features, utilities, and drainage.

A total of five different types of trees were planted during the event. That includes Sugar Maple, Basswood, Red Maple, Bur Oak, and Hackberry.

"Environmental stewardship is a priority for Perth County," said Dean Trentowsky, Warden of Perth County. "Projects like this enhance our landscape, leaving a lasting legacy for future generations. We’re grateful to have had this opportunity to work together in partnership with to the Rotary Club of Stratford and all the volunteers who made this initiative possible. The continued partnership with the local staff at Upper Thames River Conservation Authority (UTRCA) is also greatly appreciated. I also wish to express thanks and appreciation to the local landowners on Perth Road 112 for their co-operation and collaboration on this project."
