The new Board of Health for the Grey Bruce Public Health Unit has been formed by the Province of Ontario.
Ontario's Chief Medical Officer of Health took assumed control of the board in August 2025, due to "serious concerns" with the board's governance.
Six months after that, the province concluded the terms of its existing Board members and began the process of appointing new ones.
So far, the Special Advisors to Ontario's Chief Medical Officer of Health have only appointed two provincial members out of a possible six. However, this week, the board was formed with the announcement that Grey and Bruce Counties have appointed seven municipal members to the Board of Health.
Grey County is appointing Shirley Keaveney, Dane Nielsen, Barbara Dobreen, and Scott Greig. Bruce County is appointing Rod Anderson, Ken Craig and Steve Hammell.
"These appointments will provide strong and effective leadership for public health in Grey and Bruce," said Grey County Warden Andrea Matrosovs in a media release. "We appreciate the commitment of our council members, both past and new, who choose to serve on the Board of Health."
Both Keaveney and Craig join Chad Richards as members that served on the previous board.
The municipal members will serve until the end of term in November. The newly established Board of Health is set to have their first meeting sometime this spring.
