The Chippewas of Saugeen First Nation is asking community members to weigh in on the future of policing in the community.
Chief and Council have launched a policing feasibility study, aimed at exploring options that better reflect the Nation’s priorities, values, and expectations around safety and wellbeing.
The study is being conducted with support from KPMG, and will examine what a community-focused policing model could look like, including the potential for an agreement with the Anishinabek Police Service.
As part of the process, residents are being invited to complete a community survey, which will help shape the direction of the study. Officials say the goal is to better understand what effective policing looks like from the community’s perspective, and to identify key priorities when it comes to safety and trust.
Responses will be collected anonymously by KPMG, with only aggregate results shared with the Nation’s project team.
In a social media post, the First Nation emphasized the importance of community input, encouraging members to share their ideas and expectations for policing moving forward.
The survey is open until May 1, 2026.
