The Town of Saugeen Shores is moving forward on an update to its Transportation Master Plan to keep pace with local growth and change.
The last time the current plan was completed was in 2020, and the town wants to ensure it reflects evolving transportation needs across the municipality. The master plan will focus on roads, walking and cycling routes, as well as broader transportation policies and programs in the years ahead.
The work is being carried out under the Municipal Class Environmental Assessment process, a provincially approved framework that guides infrastructure planning while considering environmental impacts.
Initial consultation sessions were held in July of last year, and the project team used the input to create preliminary recommendations for the future of transportation in Saugeen Shores. Before the plan goes to council for a decision later this spring, residents are invited to take part in the next round of consultations to help refine the plan.
Two Public Information Centre sessions have been scheduled for Wednesday, April 15. The first will take place at Southampton Town Hall from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m., with a presentation beginning at 4:45. A second session will be held later that evening at Rotary Hall at the Plex in Port Elgin from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., with a presentation at 6:45.
Town officials say attending either session will give residents a chance to learn more about the proposed recommendations and share feedback that will help guide the final version of the plan.
As Saugeen Shores continues to grow, the updated Transportation Master Plan is expected to play an important role in shaping how residents and visitors get around now and into the future.
