Workshop being held in Mitchell to help farmers try conservation projects

Local conservation authorities will hold a workshop in Mitchell to help farmers try conservation projects on their lands.

The conservation authorities that cover the Maitland, Ausable Bayfield, and Upper Thames River watersheds are inviting farmers and landowners to attend the Farmer and Rural Landowner workshop at the Crystal Palace in Mitchell on March 26.

This workshop will highlight local stewardship initiatives and showcase how conservation organizations can help turn landowner ideas into practical, on- the-ground projects.

Conservation specialists will demonstrate how to start wetland, grassland, and tree planting projects on farms and private lands, including how to access conservation funding to complete those projects.

All are welcome to attend, including farmers, rural landowners, and anyone interested in farm stewardship. Refreshments will be provided.

The event will feature guest speakers Kate Procter of Bodmin Farms Ltd, Brussels and Alanna Coneybeare of Conlee Farms Ltd, Listowel. These local farmers will share firsthand experience with undertaking stewardship projects on their farms, from field windbreaks to restored wetlands.

For more information or to register, contact Marisa Roefs by emailing mroefs@mvca.on.ca or calling 519-335-3557 ext. 235.

"By bringing community members and conservation specialists together, we’re aiming to spark new, on-the-ground projects to improve soil health, water quality, and wildlife habitat," said Shannon Millar, Restoration Supervisor at Maitland Conservation.
