St. Marys Strong as Stone program honours people who strengthen the community

Residents of St. Marys are being invited to help highlight the people who quietly strengthen the community through the town’s Strong As Stone recognition program.

The initiative encourages community members to nominate individuals whose volunteer efforts help make St. Marys a better place to live. People who are selected through the program are recognized during a Town Council meeting, acknowledged through media coverage, and presented with an official certificate.

“This program recognizes community members who make a difference,” said Mayor Al Strathdee. “Their generosity and dedication set an example for us all.”

Anyone can put forward a nomination for a St. Marys resident of any age, and people who live outside the town may also be considered if their volunteer work benefits the community. Only volunteer service is eligible for recognition, meaning elected officials and individuals carrying out duties as part of their paid employment cannot be nominated.

Nominations will be accepted between March 8 and March 22, 2026. Individuals who meet the program’s criteria are expected to be announced in April.

Nomination forms are available online at the Town of St. Marys website. Paper copies can also be requested from the Friendship Centre by contacting Corporate Communications Coordinator Lauren Thomson-Vernooy in advance by email.
