Snow squalls could dump 20 to 40 cm on Bruce Peninsula

"Persistent" lake effect snow is expected to be an issue for people in Bruce Peninsula heading into the weekend.

Environment Canada has issued an orange level snow squall watch for the region as snow squalls are expected to develop Friday and continue through Saturday. The squalls will predominantly impact the northern tip of the Bruce Peninsula from north of Lion's Head to Tobermory. Between 20 to 40 centimetres of snow is possible, according to the national weather agency.

"Persistent snow squalls are expected to develop. Under the snow squall bands, visibility will be significantly reduced due to the heavy snow combined with blowing snow, and snow will quickly accumulate," Environment Canada noted.

Conditions are expected to improve Saturday night.
