OPP say aggressive dog on the loose in Hensall

One person was taken to hospital with minor injuries following an attack from an aggressive dog that police say is still on the loose.

Huron County OPP say the dog, described as a pit bull, attacked a pedestrian in the Village of Hensall just before 1 p.m. on Thursday. The victim was taken to local hospital with minor injuries.

Officers arrived on scene and located the dog, running at large.

Police said the dog was aggressive and "posed an immediate threat to public safety," so one of the responding officers shot toward the dog, which then ran from the area.

OPP say the dog may have been struck, but its condition is currently unknown.

The dog fled southbound through the community, prompting police to keep students indoors at nearby Bluewater Coast Elementary School.

Officers observed the dog running through a farm field south of Hensall and into a wooded area just west of London Road.

The dog is said to weigh approximately 120 pounds, and be predominantly white in colour with some black fur.

The public is advised to contact OPP at either 911 or 1-888-310-1122 if this dog is observed.

Police will provide updates when available.
