Garbage bag tag prices rising in Owen Sound on Tuesday

The City of Owen Sound is reminding residents that the cost of garbage bag tags will be increasing on Canada Day.

Starting Tuesday, July 1, 2025, the fee will go up from $2.50 per tag to $3.

The fee increase was approved by City Council as part of the Fees and Charges By-Law on June 16.

City staff say the increase will support waste diversion initiatives, particularly the new Green Bin program. The bag tag fee is set to be reviewed again in 2026.

Regular garbage collection will remain every other week, while green bin collection is weekly.

With this change, the City is encouraging residents to reduce what goes into their garbage by taking full advantage of its newly-launched Recycle Coach "What Goes Where" tool and the Green Bin organics collection program.
