The Saugeen Hospice is calling on residents to lace up their hiking shoes and join the annual Hike for Saugeen Hospice on Sunday, May 4. The community fundraiser brings people together to support the ongoing efforts to bring hospice residence care closer to home.
This year, hikers can choose from five unique events in Durham, Hanover, Mildmay, Paisley, and Walkerton, each offering special activities, local flavour, and opportunities to connect.
Durham’s hike runs from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at the Saugeen Valley Conservation Campground Pavilion, with butterfly-themed fun, a photo booth, crafts, snacks, and hot drinks.
Hanover’s event begins with two free swims at the P&H Centre, followed by a lively triathlon of skating, walking, and swimming if the hometown Hanover Barons remain in playoff action. Registration opens at 12:30 p.m., with a space-themed photo booth and a BBQ hosted by the Hanover Lions Club.
Mildmay hikers will gather at the Community Centre from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. to enjoy a scenic trail hike with stops at local parks.
Paisley joins the lineup for the first time this year, hosting a family-friendly event from 12:00 to 3:00 p.m. at the Riverside Palace, with fitness warmups, indoor Roll and Stroll options, snacks, live entertainment, and outdoor games.
Finally, Walkerton’s hikers will gather at the Walkerton Agricultural Building #2 from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. to trek along the river trail, meet Smokey the Bear and local firefighters, and snap photos at a Hawaiian-themed booth.
Participants are encouraged to collect pledges, with every hiker who submits a pledge sheet entered into a draw for a gift basket from the Bruce County Museum and Cultural Centre.
