On May 8, thousands of students in Grades 5 to 8 from across the Upper Grand District School Board (UGDSB) will gather for a day of motivation, inspiration, and excitement at this year’s Empowerment Day.
The event will take place at the Sleeman Centre in Guelph from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., featuring motivational speakers, performers, and presenters delivering messages relevant to today’s youth.
Empowerment Day was created in 2014 by two students from Drayton Heights Public School. In recent years, Elora Public School's Students Create Change group has taken the lead in hosting the event, continuing the tradition of student-driven leadership and positivity.
This year’s event carries the theme “Push Beyond”, encouraging students to overcome obstacles, reach new heights, and make a positive impact in their communities and beyond.
Special guests include Canadian soccer icon Christine Sinclair, world explorer and storm chaser George Kourounis, award-winning spoken word poet Dwayne Morgan, inspirational speaker Chris Koch, and 9-time TEDx speaker Blake Fly.
Together, they’ll share personal stories and powerful messages aimed at inspiring UGDSB students to believe in themselves and the difference they can make.
