The return of a beloved feature at Brockton’s community pool is a step closer to becoming reality.
The municipality has received two donations totaling $7,500 toward its Centennial Park Pool Diving Board Project. Hammond Power Solutions has kicked in $5,000, while the Rotary Club of Walkerton has given $2,500.
Through the project, the municipality is trying to raise $17,441.83 toward the $34,883.66 needed to equipped the pool with a brand new diving board. The cost quoted by commercial aquatic suppliers includes the stand, delivery, and installation.
“The support from the Rotary Club of Walkerton and Hammond Power Solutions is deeply appreciated,” said Lisa Fagan, the municipality's recreation programming supervisor. “These donations bring us one step closer to restoring a key element of fun and recreation to Centennial Park Pool. We are incredibly grateful for the Rotary Club’s ongoing commitment to our community, as well as for the unwavering support and dedication from Hammond Power Solutions.”
Centennial Park Pool in Walkerton has been without a diving board since its previous board was removed during the COVID-19 pandemic. It was determined the aging board had reached the end of its lifespan. Since then there has been strong public interest in adding a new diving board to the pool to enhance the experience for swimmers of all ages, as well as attract more visitors to the pool and promote health and fitness through aquatic recreation. Municipal officials also believe the return of the board would help foster local pride in Brockton's recreation facilities.
The municipality aims to purchase and install the new diving board this summer.
"Every donation, big or small, plays a pivotal role in realizing this project and enhancing the summer experience for all ages at Centennial Park Pool," the municipality said in a statement.
