Now that the date of the next Ontario election is confirmed, the Association of Municipalities of Ontario wants commitments from all provincial leaders to enhance quality of life.
It has launched a public awareness campaign to ensure voters and party leaders understand how much provincial support is needed to secure a high quality of life for Ontario residents.
The non-partisan campaign is called "Vote like your quality of life depends on it." It will zero in on three areas where provincial partnership can improve quality of life and community wellbeing.
The first is curbing reliance on municipal property taxes to fund provincial responsibilities. The second demands a commitment to invest in the infrastructure needed to build homes, and the third focuses on ending homelessness.
The AMO launched the campaign at a recent convention.
"Municipalities are the foundation of Ontario's economic prosperity and quality of life," said AMO President Robin Jones. "But the funding arrangements that municipal governments rely on to deliver services and infrastructure are broken. Ontarians should demand that all provincial parties commit to the necessary actions to keep our communities safe, affordable, and prosperous."
The AMO said Ontarians can expect to see and hear ads across all media, online and traditional.
Ontario voters will go to the polls on February 27.
