Saugeen Shores will not change how garbage pickup is handled for condominiums this year, but will conduct a review ahead of a provincial overhaul to recycling next year.
Council received a delegation in April from Eagle Court at Westlinks, who requested curbside pickup, noting that adjacent condominiums get service from Bruce Area Solid Waste Recycling (BASWR).
A report from staff found that Westlink was not receiving pickup because of the distinction between service on public and private roads, but also noted there was no consistent rule for Saugeen Shores.
Councillor Cheryl Grace said that any changes should come next year.
"I'm really sorry for the folks that are looking at this inconsistency in the Westlinks area," she said. "But the fact that the province is supposedly rolling out their Producer Pays model that is going to influence what our policy is going to be going forward, I think it makes sense for us to work on this this year."
Saugeen Shores is set to renew its BASWR contract on January 1, 2026, when the provincial changes also go into effect.
Mayor Luke Charbonneau said he was thankful the report was brought forward and that it will be part of talks ahead of the changes.
Condo waste pickup will remain status quo for now and proposed changes will be incorporated into the 2026 Business Plan
