Wiarton gets support for Winter Wonderland

The Town of South Bruce Peninsula and Wiarton BIA will receive help transforming the Berford Street Parkette into a festive holiday space.

The Wiarton Winter Wonderland is one of many projects for the My Main Street Community Activator initiative, which is designed to support for community projects in southern Ontario that will draw visitors and increase local vibrancy.

"This Wiarton Winter Wonderland project will draw people into downtown Wiarton, creating a vibrant atmosphere as we kick off the holiday shopping season," said Danielle Edwards, Manager of Economic Development for the Town of South Bruce Peninsula. "The Christmas tree will be a centerpiece, sparking joy and giving everyone a reason to visit, experience the festive magic, and support local businesses."

The project is receiving support to invest in durable decorations that can withstand Bruce Peninsula's weather, which organizers say will contribute to the event's sustainability.

"We would like to thank the My Main Street Program, the Canadian Urban Institute, and the Federal Economic Development Agency of Southern Ontario for their generous support," said David Nusko, Chair of the Wiarton BIA. "This has allowed us to build on the vision of our former Chair, creating a true holiday winter destination in downtown Wiarton."

This is the second time the town has accessed funding from My Main Street. Several local businesses received $10,000 in funding from the program back in 2022.
