Huron Perth Catholic board releases EQAO results

The Huron Perth Catholic District School Board's elementary students exceeded the average in province wide standardized testing.

“Our elementary results continue to demonstrate excellence in relation to the rest of the province. At the same time we understand the need to keep our focus on improvement especially in the Intermediate Division and in Mathematics, ” said Director of Education Chris Roehrig. “The Board recently approved an ambitious strategic plan which sets the stage for stronger results going forward.”

The students in the Junior Division of Huron-Perth Catholic schools exceeded the provincial averages in reading and writing and are approaching the provincial average in mathematics.

Grade 9 students participated in the provincial assessment of the destreamed Grade 9 curriculum. According to the board, the students’ performance on the assessment indicates a trend in achievement consistent with students across the province in Grade 9 Mathematics.

“Our EQAO results reflect the hard work of students and staff as they continue to progress toward excellence in literacy and mathematics," said Mary Helen Van Loon, Chair of the Board. "We are proud of their achievements but recognize there is still work to be done. As a Board, we remain diligent in our efforts to provide the support and resources necessary to reach these goals.”

The achievement of Grade 10 students who participated in the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test aligned with the provincial average.

The annual assessments were conducted in the spring of 2023 for the Primary and Junior Divisions and at the end of each semester for the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test. Grade 9 Mathematics was conducted at the end of each semester.
